Review: The Day Of The Duchess by Sarah MacLean

A love that neither can deny…

THE DAY OF THE DUCHESS
Scandal & Scoundrel #3
Sarah MacLean
Releasing June 27, 2017
Avon Books

The one woman he will never forget…

Malcolm Bevingstoke, Duke of Haven, has lived the last three years in self-imposed solitude, paying the price for a mistake he can never reverse and a love he lost forever. The dukedom does not wait, however, and Haven requires an heir, which means he must find himself a wife by summer’s end. There is only one problem—he already has one.

The one man she will never forgive…

After years in exile, Seraphina, Duchess of Haven, returns to London with a single goal—to reclaim the life she left and find happiness, unencumbered by the man who broke her heart. Haven offers her a deal; Sera can have her freedom, just as soon as she finds her replacement…which requires her to spend the summer in close quarters with the husband she does not want, but somehow cannot resist.

A love that neither can deny…

The duke has a single summer to woo his wife and convince her that, despite their broken past, he can give her forever, making every day...

Malcolm and Seraphina Bevingstoke, the Duke and Duchess of Haven are no ordinary couple and don’t have an ordinary marriage.  Married over 3 years, the Duke has been trying to find his missing wife for the best part of those until the day she shows up back in London requesting a divorce.
As Malcolm wants her forgiveness and a chance to start over, he’ll have to devise a plan that will give him the opportunity to woo her before Parliament is back in session to vote on their divorce.  Unfortunately for him, Sera will come to him with reinforcements and prepared to be shielded from his charms while working hard to get the freedom she feels lost.
I hadn’t read a book by Ms. MacLean in a while, but this story made me remember why I enjoyed them so much.  It’s a story full of love, guilt and regret.  The story of a couple who fell in love and made mistakes which they both allowed to become unsurmountable obstacles between them and, when brought back together, don’t know how to talk or work things out for the best.  They’re completely blinded by their passion for each other and only when things are about to end, will they understand what they really want.
I loved the characters.  Malcolm and Sera are both strong, smart and perfect for each other even when they are fighting and have a love for the ages.  Her sisters are amazing women who make some parts completely hysterical and the guests to his house party were a great addition to the mix.

I really enjoyed this story and honestly recommend to any lover of the genre.

Review: Duplicity by AJ Renee

DUPLICITY by AJ Renee
St. Fleur #3
Contemporary Romance | Interracial Romance

Everyone leaves…

Jaime Lynn has lived by that mantra all of her life. After opening a pub in St. Fleur, she begins to root herself into the town and its community, questioning the only attitude she has ever known. When Jesse interviews for the open bartending position, she knows hiring him is a bad decision she’ll make anyway. Giving in to their powerful attraction, she accepts his invitation to explore what’s between them—and is reminded that not everyone gets their happily ever after.

Haunted by the memories around his hometown of New Orleans, Jesse leaves everyone he knows and loves, hoping to find a sliver of peace. Jaime Lynn turns out to be the light to his dark, bringing Jesse away from his nightmares and back to his hopes and dreams.

When the truth comes out, Jesse and Jaime Lynn agree to give their relationship another try. The stars finally align, guiding them onto a new path where they can leave their past behind them.

What will they do when Jesse learns about the gift he never received but always wanted?

What can I say about this book? I've been waiting a long time for Jaime Lynn and Jesse's  story and it did not disappoint. Both of them are dealing with a lot of baggage and are hesitant when it comes to relationships. When they finally do give in a misunderstanding happens and we are back to square one. Once that issue is resolved we finally get we've all been waiting for since "Widower's Aura".

This story dealt with grief and abandonment issues and it hit home to me in several ways. At times I had to stop reading and compose myself as it brought up memories of my childhood. I love how each couple in this series are characters that you can connect and relate to while reading. Another plus about this story was that it's an interracial romance. I loved the diversity and so happy the author went this route. Everyone deserves love no matter the color of your skin is or the color of the person skin you fall in love with. The couple did face challenges and I liked the way the author wrote about it in this book.

Renee's writing has only gotten stronger since her debut novel and I'm always eager to read a new book by her in this series. Renee has a way of writing characters that you can relate and connect with and when you read it feels like you are part of the story. I can't wait for Rocco's book as he is another interesting character in this series!

Widower's Aura, #1

Always Mine, #2

EXCERPT:
Jesse’s eyes flew open as he released himself and moved to a protective stance. “What are you doing here?”

His gaze moved down her body in a caress. She saw the flash of pleasure before he put up walls to protect himself from her hurtful inaction and words. Unable to speak, her mind was jumbled over Jesse’s naked form and the fact that he had been pleasuring himself. Jaime Lynn stepped into the spray and Jesse moved back. His back hit the wall with nowhere to go.

Jaime Lynn took in his body, the muscles covering his chest and arms down to his sculpted abs. His beautiful, thick length stood proudly as her eyes roved down his thighs to where wiry, black hair covered his legs.

Confusion flashed over his face, replacing the desire in his gaze, as he repeated, “What are you doing here, Jaime Lynn?”

Nerves froze her in place, the words right on the tip of her tongue. No matter the limbo state of their relationship, Jesse was a constant in her life. They may have danced around their attraction for far too long, but the idea of him not being there at all scared the crap out of her. There really was no one else she was willing to risk her heart for.

Review: The Catch by K. Bromberg

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him. Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton. But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong. With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone. He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00074]Baseball has never been sexier in an all-new novel by New York Times Bestselling Author, K. Bromberg. Easton Wylder is baseball royalty. The game is his life. His passion. His everything. So, when an injury threatens to end Easton’s season early, the team calls in renowned physical therapist, Doc Dalton, to oversee his recovery. Except it’s not Doc who greets Easton for his first session, but rather, his daughter, Scout. She may be feisty, athletic, defiant, and gorgeous, but Easton is left questioning whether she has what it takes to help him. Scout Dalton’s out to prove a female can handle the pressure of running the physical therapy regimen of an MLB club. And that proof comes in the form of getting phenom Easton Wylder back on the field. But getting him healthy means being hands-on. And with a man as irresistible as Easton, being hands-on can only lead to one thing, trouble. Because the more she touches him, the more she wants him, and she can’t want him. Not when it’s her job to maintain the club’s best interest, in regards to whether he’s ready to play. But when sparks fly and fine lines are crossed, can they withstand the heat, or is one of them bound to get burned?

This book picks up right where we left off and boy did it no disappoint! This book was so different from the first book. In this book the couple faced SEVERAL hurdles, obstacles and setbacks. I loved how real and raw this book was and I love how K. Bromberg didn't sugarcoat anything. Relationships are very hard work and this brought a certain realness to the story. At times I wasn't sure how everything was going to work out but I kept the faith. Scout was perfect for Easton because she kept on loving him even when it hurt, even when he was at his absolute worst she never stopped loving him. Throughout the story we had several twists and turns that I did and didn't see coming. My jaw literally dropped with one revelation. This is only the second book that I've read by K. Bromberg but I love her writing and storytelling. I love the realness of the characters and how she sucked me right into this world. Well done again, Bromberg!

Arianna Morgan:

She never thought life would beat her down. She never imagined the man she loved doing it either. Starting over in a small town was her only option. Once she arrived in Carson Falls, she realized her life never really began until the locals, one specifically, proved that there are things that can mend your spirit.
River Bradshaw:

He never thought the mother of his child would walk away. He also never thought she would end up dead. Living in a small town his whole life, he knew what his life’s meaning was, or so he thought. Once a stranger from out of town started teaching his daughter piano, she proved that life had much more in store for him.

This is a story about loss, love, and how music can teach us about ourselves.
Second chance at life, rediscoving oneself and finding a true love when you thought it would never happen again.  Reading a new author is invigorating.  See something new from a new set of eyes.

The first few pages of Love In Carson Falls had me gutted.  As a mother, your heart breaks with the how much loss and destruction Arianna encompassed.  With determination she made the choice and broke the cycle.  After getting up again, she escaped to her best friend's open arms.  On the opposite side of the country for a new start and a new life, Ari needed to find herself and be stronger.

River lived in the same town for his whole life. His sole purpose was his daughter,
Cadence.  With being a single dad, he was a protector and very selective who was around his daughter.  With Frozen on repeat and continually begging for piano lessons, River was finally 'letting go' and granted Cade's wish.  Arianna was a perfect teacher for his daughter. Not only did she fall in love with piano, Ari fell in love with Cadence and River.

But with ups theirs always downs.   Someone wanted to take away her happiness.  This is where things didn't add up for me.  I understood why the person went after Ari.  The man in question wanted River to suffer.  But what happened to her Ex?  He just totally dropped off the page.

Love In Carson Falls opens your eyes for second chance at love.  When you think one door is closed, there is another that is open.

Review: The Red Lily by Juliette Cross

The Red Lily by Juliette Cross

Release Date: 6/19/17

Genre: Paranormal Romance

About The Red Lily:

When Red falls for the Big Bad Wolf… The Black Lily resistance needs a larger army if they are to defeat the vampire monarchy. In order to do so, former lieutenant and traitor to the vampire Crown, Nikolai must seek help from the red-hooded temptress he needs to avoid at all costs. The secret he carries could prove dangerous for her if she gets too close…even though keeping her close—very close—is the only thing on his mind. Sienna will do anything for the Black Lily, and when Nikolai asks for her assistance to gain the trust of the commonwealth, it’s the last thing she wants to do. The thought of leaving her woods and her wolves behind is terrifying…not to mention the danger being with Nikolai poses.

When Sienna is called upon by Arabelle to help recruit members for the Black Lily’s army, she won’t hesitate to help.  Despite her fear of leaving the woods and the hart wolves behind, she’ll trust Nikolaithe Crown’s former lieutenant, to keep her protected while they travel north for their mission.  The small flaw in the plan is the intense attraction between the two of them.
This second installment of the series is a nice take on Little Red Riding Hood and, once again, I found myself totally in love with the vampire world Ms. Cross has created.  I couldn’t get enough of the evil machinations from the inhabitants of the Glass Tower and how far their clutches extend while trying to grow the vampire army and bring back the dark days.
In the midst of the chaos, Nikolai will watch closely over Sienna and will try to protect her above all.  Their love will blossom and they’ll fight to overcome the greatest adversities.
As with the previous book, I found myself immersed in the world of the Black Lily and enjoyed the adventures our heroes find themselves in.  The story flows nicely and will not disappoint.  My one complaint is that I found some things a little too contemporary and, IMO, it took a little from the story, but other than that, it was a nice read and I can’t wait to find out what’s to follow.

Review: The King by Skye Warren

The King by Skye Warren

Blurb:
The highest stakes...

My father gambles every night, falling deeper and deeper into debt. When he hits the bottom, he places a new bet: his daughter. I'm his entry bet to the biggest underground poker game.

Every kind of danger circles the velvet-covered table, but only one man makes me tremble.

A trailer park princess.

The son of a criminal king.

We don't belong together, but I'm caught in a twisted game.

His eyes meet mine with dark promise. And when he puts down his cards, I know I'm going to lose more than my body. I'm going to lose everything.

*Review*
When I first read the Endgame Series, I didn’t care much for Damon Scott until the last book, when I got a glimpse of something else.  Of course, that meant I HAD to read this book and O.M.G.
This is Penny’s story.  Her father is a compulsive gambler, her mother is long gone and Damon comes into her life briefly when she’s very young.  When he shows up again, he’s all grown up and her father owes him money, but has no way to pay except one last game; one with a big enough pot and the only thing to use as a buy in is her.
Damon and Penny are flawed and complex characters both abused, both paying for the sins of their parents.  They have more in common that it seems possible given their backgrounds and they are both manipulated by evil to do their bidding.  But Damon is hell bent on protecting Penny above all and he’s willing to sacrifice his soul to set her free.
There are secrets, things no one knows and Ms. Warren will take us on a dark trek to find them out.  The story is full of intense, twisted situations that are bound to keep you on edge up until the last page.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Noah wasn't sure whether to be furious with Lucia, or thrilled that she was right. Either way, they needed to have it out. She made love to him not two hours ago, but when she’d looked at him and told him she loved him, she’d been lying to him. She didn't lie; she kept it to herself. Damn it. Keeping a secret like this was tantamount to lying. How the hell was he supposed to keep her safe, keep them all safe if she didn't tell him the most pertinent information of all? As much as he wanted to justify it, he couldn’t deny the bitter tang of betrayal on his tongue. He found her in the living room, cross-legged on the couch, wearing one of his shirts and a pair of his boxer shorts. She had the sleeves rolled up to reveal her slim forearms. Head bent over, she was going through a stack of fashion magazines labeling things and putting Post-its on them. Writing things like, “Pull,” “Check with Adriana if we have it,” “Can we partner with this designer?” She was working. Completely in her zone. Well, too bad for her; Noah was about to interrupt her. He marched over to the couch, and she looked up, giving him the sweetest smile he'd ever seen. So sweet it pulled at the places in his heart he’d swear didn’t exist anymore. She looked so perfect there, sunlight streaming into the living room and splashing over her, creating soft shadows and halos all over her. She looked like an angel. "Hi. What's up?" There was an invitation in her smile and, like the traitor it was, his dick swelled. He couldn't seem to keep his mind or his hand off of her. They needed to talk, so the big guy downstairs would just have to wait. "I was going to ask you the same thing. Is there anything you want to talk to me about?" Her brows furrowed even as she continued smiling up at him. "No. I mean, unless when you say talk, you mean —" She lifted a brow and her eyes danced mischievously. Okay, so he could totally understand how even the most hardened spies could fall for the enemy. Because, right about now, he wasn't using the brain cells God gave him. He was using the other part of his brain. The one completely responsible for manning the sex train. The one that wanted to yank off her boxers and sink into her, right here in the middle of the living room, where anyone could walk in. No. Stay strong. Besides, they’d done enough of that. After one too many close calls, the tracking devices he had everyone wear were now used to track where he and Lucia were, so the team could give them a wide berth. Not exactly the use he had planned for them, but whatever. But they had enough privacy. And maybe if he just sank deep into her, he’d stop riding the razor’s edge and focus enough so he could ask her what he needed to ask her. If he slid the boxers off, spread her wide and stroked deep, they’d both feel better. They’d be relaxed enough to have this conversation. It was amazing the things he could come up with when he let his dick do the thinking. He considered it. For a long moment, he considered it. She’d taste so sweet. Was she sore from earlier? Or, from this morning? He hadn't exactly been gentle. But then again, neither had she. He still had her nail marks on his shoulders. Noah grinned with purely male satisfaction. He could still feel how those scratches had stung this morning in the shower when the water hit them. Oh shit. He did not need to think about the shower, or what they did in there. And he probably shouldn’t think about her taste because then he’d think about what they’d just done and—no. Never mind, there it was. In amazing Technicolor and surround sound in his mind. He cleared his throat. No. They were having this conversation now. Because he was pretty damn certain that after they had this conversation, the last thing on his mind would be sex. "Nope. Nothing to talk about." Her gaze searched his. And he saw pain there. He hated that he’d had a part in the pain there. Because he was pretty damn sure there was one thing she probably wanted to talk about but she didn’t trust him to be open-minded. That hurt more than anything else, that she couldn't talk to him. Didn't she understand that all he wanted was her safety and happiness? Behind his back, Noah's fingers tightened around the tablet he held. A tablet that held the image of a ghost he’d long since buried. A ghost that was back to haunt them all. The question was, what did he want? Noah took the picture tablet from behind his back and slapped it on the table. "Explain." Lucia glanced at the picture and her breath caught. Her fingers flew to her lips then her gaze flickered to his. "I don’t know what to say.” "Yesterday Matthias came into my office freaking the fuck out because Nelson came back as a false name. I lost years on my life in that split second when I was worried about you." "Noah, I can explain." He shook his head. "I was terrified that something happened to you. Terrified that once again I was too late. And then I called Ryan and everything was fine. So that was when I knew that either the false identity was laying groundwork for something crazier than we’re already dealing with or you were lying to me." "I didn't lie to you, Noah." He crossed his arms. "Oh yeah? Then what do you call it exactly? Omission? You just happened to forget that you saw your brother in your fucking office yesterday?" He kneeled down so that their gazes were level. "Or, please tell me that you didn't see him. Please fucking tell me that he came into your office but you didn't see him. Tell me that. So that I don't think that the woman I love lied to me."

About Nana Malone:

USA Today bestselling author Nana Malone's love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense novel she "borrowed" from her cousin.   It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick-butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination constantly channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.   While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as brazen and kick-butt as she thinks she is.

Review: Revenge by Lexi Blake

Passion and danger collide in the latest contemporary romance featuring the Lawless siblings—from New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake. When Drew Lawless discovers a fatal flaw in his plan to avenge his parents’ deaths, he turns to the one woman he promised he wouldn't touch. He offers her a deal, one that will bring her into his investigation, his life, and his bed. Investigative reporter Shelby Gates never dreamed how twisted the case would become—or how fascinated she would be with Drew. Every day they spend together binds them. And every night brings her closer to realizing he might be the man for her. As Drew's feelings for Shelby grow, so does the danger. From the streets of Dallas to Austin’s high-tech business world, Drew and Shelby play a game begun twenty years before—a game they will win, or die trying.

I've been not so patiently wait for the conclusion of this series and I have to say I was not disappointed! I loved Drew’s character but at times I wanted to knock some sense into him when it came to Shelby. He was very stubborn and refused to see what he could have when it came to her and kept pushing her away. I also wanted to tell Shelby to stop letting Drew treat you like that as well. Yes, he does have issues but that's no excuse for his behavior. This story was filled with a lot of twist and turns and at one point I wasn't sure who could be trusted as I kept reading. Lexi Blake has a way of sucking you in with her writing. This was an enjoyable read and sad that the series has come to an end!

His lips were soft, his hands tight. He was enveloping her and she was completely defenseless against him. She wrapped her arms around him as the kiss deepened, and suddenly she didn’t want to play it safe anymore. She’d been in her shell for so long and she wanted to come out of it, wanted to feel again. She dragged her tongue over his lower lip, and it seemed to awaken the beast in Drew. He took over, the kiss going from sweet to carnal in an instant. His mouth opened, tongue sliding over hers and dominating with strength and a sensuality she’d never come across before. He kissed her long and hard, his hands molding to the curves of her body. Over and over again his tongue danced with hers. Never before had a kiss seemed so effortless. It was like they’d been kissing forever. For a man who claimed he was socially awkward, he sure could kiss like a god. It was getting out of hand, but she didn’t care. Nothing mattered except getting more of him. She could feel his cock under her, hardening, lengthening, getting ready for what it was meant to do. He could ease her back against the table, pull off her jeans and panties. It would be incendiary, like a rocket going off, an explosion she couldn’t contain.
