Launch Day Blitz+Review: The Bachelor Auction by Rachel Van Dyken

THE BACHELOR AUCTION by Rachel Van Dyken (January 31, 2017; Forever Mass Market Paperback; $7.99; The Bachelors of Arizona Book 1)

NOW IN PAPERBACK!

The first book in an all-new contemporary romance series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken.

Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.

Jane isn't entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn't she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes---or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire---maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn't anyone's dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk---even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it's karmic retribution that he's tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can't have. But while they can't have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . . .

This story is a twist on the Cinderella story. Jane is the baby sister and lives with her two older sisters who use her and boss her around. Tired of being dumped on she chooses to spend three weeks cleaning the estate of Brock Wellington. There is an attraction between the main couple and after some push and pull they get together. The story was cute and the writing was really good. My issue with Jane was that she was weak for far too long. I was waiting for her to have her "big moment" with her horrible sisters and it never happened. She need more of a backbone and it never developed. So that was a miss for me. Brock on the other hand dealt with his issues of his parents death and his overbearing grandfather, Charles. I really loved his brother Bentley and Brant. They had several laugh out loud moments. Oh and Nadine!! I loved her and the love/hate relationship she had with their grandfather, Charles. I can't wait for the rest of the books and this was an excellent start to a new series!

ANY TIME, ANY PLACE by Jennifer Probst

Billionaire Builders, #2

BLURB:

HGTV’s Property Brothers meets The Marriage Bargain in this second volume in the Billionaire Builders series, an all-new heart-wrenching and sexy contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst. When she was a teen, Raven Bella Stratton’s father was killed in a horrible car crash. The bigger shock was the discovery of a woman with him—Diana Pierce—and their two fully packed suitcases with airline tickets to Paris. Devastated by her father’s betrayal, Raven went to live with her aunt, never truly overcoming the traumatic event. When she discovers that the mysterious woman had a family with a husband and three boys, Raven vows to leave the memory of her father behind. Until Dalton Pierce visits one night and suddenly her past challenges her future... Leaving his life in California behind to run Pierce Construction with his two older brothers, Dalton Pierce has enjoyed returning home and studying his passion of woodworking. But when he visits the local bar with his brothers one evening, he’s immediately drawn to the smart-mouthed, badass, sexy bartender who sets his body on fire. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem as intrigued by him, and his multiple advances are met with rejection. When he offers to restore the bar back to its original glory, he begins to work with her on a daily basis, and falls harder. His plan of seduction slowly weaves a web around them both, until they are caught up in the spell. But Dalton doesn’t know the secret that can either destroy them both...or finally mend two broken hearts.

After reading “Everywhere, Every way” I was excited to read this book. Raven is so hurt by the actions of her father and what he did to their family. Dalton has no idea about Raven or her father and why she doesn't like him. At first Raven has this plan but as time goes on she starts to get second thoughts. The guilt is starting to consume Raven and she's not sure what she should do. Once the secret does comes out there is drama as expected. I don't understand why Raven was so surprised with the way Dalton acted. Could you blame him?? I mean she came clean with her secret and he was supposed to be like it's ok and act like nothing happened. The story was good and it did hold my attention but at times it was just a little predictable. Overall, I am enjoying the series and can't wait for the next book.

Review: The Neighborhood by Stylo Fantome

Title: The Neighborhood
Series: Twin Estates #2
Author: Stylo Fantôme

Blurb:
Things a bad neighbor can do to you:

1. Have loud parties late at night

2. Refuse to mow his lawn

3. Steal your newspapers

4. Rip your heart out and walk all over it

Katya Tocci is willing to admit that she may have bitten off more than she could chew.

Liam Edenhoff showed her a side of life she'd been missing out on - sex and friendship and tacos. But then he betrayed her.

Wulfric Stone taught her that big surprises can come from unexpected places - like from a surly, aggressive, withdrawn bastard. But then he broke her heart.

Now one of them wants forgiveness, and the other wants forever. And Katya? She just wants to forget.

Who knew neighbors could be so difficult?

So after the bombshell that was dropped in Neighbors we have Katya trying to pick up the pieces. Both Wulf and Liam are both sorry and want Katya to forgive and pick them as her boyfriend. As expected Katya is undecided on what to do. She comes up with this plan to make them suffer and feel the way she did. I was on board with this plan 100%. As the book and the plan progresses Katya got on my nerves! She was so annoying and wishy washy.

First off she comes up with this no sex rule with either guy. She then proceeds to break this rule and leave one guy in the dark and string him along the rest of the book. Katya knew how this guy felt and this wasn't cool. Yes, both guys hurt her but they are trying to do right by her and this is what she does. After she has sex with the one guy she's like I still can't trust him. Here we friggin go!! You shouldn't have slept with him!!! Duh!!!  After they have sex she gets into a fight with him and uses the other guy to make him jealous. Poor thing had no idea and thought she really wanted to be with him. This part I didn't agree with because I thought they were making progress. Sighs.

As the book progresses I didn't want either guy to be with her because of her actions. I went from feeling sorry for her to being angry with her actions. Despite me not wanting to continue reading, the book took an unexpected turn and when that happens a certain guy steps up to the plate. It was nice seeing this side of him and I didn't expect him do what he did. I believe this is the reason why Katya chose him in the end. I honestly didn't know who she was going to pick because they both had tender moments as well as jerk moments.

This story was definitely one for the books. I went from loving the heroine, to not standing her and back to liking her. I went from rooting for one guy and falling for the other guy. This book kept me hooked up until the very end because I had no idea who she was going to choose. I mean how could you choose? They both had good and bad things about them and the author kept you guessing the whole time. And yes the next book will be about the one she didn't pick.

About the Author
Crazy woman from an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

We set the rules…

Well, I set the rules… he agreed.

I left before we could break them, or so I thought I had…

Ella Connolly is looking forward to starting a new adventure in her life. After putting her party girl, headline-grabbing tabloid exploits behind her, she has become a responsible and successful entrepreneur. Moving across the pond to Manhattan, she’s determined to make the dream for her boutique to become an international retail brand come true.

While in the States, her overprotective brother insists she have a full-time security detail. This complicates Ella’s plans in more ways than one.

Alex Robertsen’s life is in shambles. After losing the woman he loves to his brother, he’s been on a steady diet of booze and easy women in an effort to make himself numb. Things needed to change.

Change is good.

Good, that is, until Alex finds himself thrust into an all too familiar situation.

He’s obligated by a professional oath to protect Ella at all costs.

She’s vowed to not let distractions, even the ruggedly handsome ones, keep her from her goals.

But old habits die hard…

We’d broken the rules… more than once.

We were bound to… and we agreed it was worth the risk.

He left before it shattered us both… or so we thought.

Alex's life is in shambles! He blames himself for his girlfriend’s  death, the other woman he loved chose his brother over him. After this happened
Alex needs a change of pace. Ella is from the U.K. and is in the States to expand her clothing company. Ella and Alex meet one night in a bar and hook up. They don't give names and the next day she finds out he is assigned to watch over her while she is in town. As you would imagine things are about to become very interesting.

Alex and Ella try to keep things professional and put what happened behind them in the past. Even though they tried it doesn't happen. They decide to be together but keep things hidden. I wish they would have taken more time to get know each other. The relationship progressed just a little too quick for my liking. Alex and Ella hit a bump in the road and this causes some issues between the couple. I wanted Alex to tell Ella how he was feeling!! He was making all these plans and when something out of his control happens he leaves her!! I was pissed!!

While in town Ella is also dealing with an ex boyfriend named Charlie. I had a feeling he was a slime ball and I was right. What he did to Ella was horrible and I was happy she had Alex in her corner in the end. The issues the couple had also got resolved rather quickly. Ella was sassy and I was hoping she would make Alex work harder after that stunt he pulled.

This was my first time reading anything by this  author and I was impressed.

Excerpt

The duo snogging didn’t bother to make room for us, leaving me no choice but to stand on the same side of the lift with Alex. With our arms brushed against one another, heat spread across my skin like a raging wildfire. The two of us snuggled close in a compact space. My hand still tingled from his touch. It was impossible to concentrate on anything other than him. He was here. Right next to me, looking gorgeous and smelling perfectly divine. All sense I had retreated from my brain as I stood there fantasizing about pushing him up against the wall and allowing him to shag . . . fuck the hell out of me.

Shut up, Ella, you dirty bird.

When the car reached the fifth floor, and the couple playing slap and tickle walked out, I stifled a moan of relief. Unsure if I was comforted due to the fact that they left or that I had Alex all to myself. I glanced at him, trying to get a sense of his thoughts. His mouth was pressed into a hard line, and his eyes remained forward, fixed on the numeric panel.

The lift came to a halt at the lobby and Alex stepped out, his head turned left and back to the right. The unrehearsed movement was fluid. He motioned for me to walk in front of him, but I had no clue where we were going.

“You lead the way.”

“All right, but keep your pace with mine,” he instructed. His voice was firm not angry.

I nodded, and did as I was instructed, keeping my stride with his as we passed through the spacious lobby. Something had changed his demeanor during the ride in the lift . . . elevator. Mentally I noted that I needed to brush up on my American English. If I intended to do business here, I should at least make the effort to know the proper terms.

Once outside, his hand reached inside his jacket pocket, pulling out his sunglasses. As we approached the valent stand, he put them on, shielding me from seeing his gorgeous eyes that reminded me of glowing golden sunlight sifting through deep green leaves.

Snap out of it, Ella. He’s your bodyguard.

Straightening my shoulders, I hauled my handbag higher onto my shoulder. I vowed to lock all my scandalous thoughts away.

Amplified emotional highs have been my downfall. I’ve lost parts of myself to the dark corners of my heart because of the damage others have inflicted.

Whiskey might be able to ease the burn of one’s soul, but this time it might not be enough to survive. Instead of letting me wither in the cracks of my desiccated soul, he pushes me to appreciate the scars, instead of avoiding the bruises.

I’ve had more than my share of sanctioned hell, and I am through living in a limbo between who I should be and who I am. I won’t allow myself to become a casualty of my own mind again.

I am no longer carrying the obscurities of my life around with me when he chooses to stand and fight beside me.

With him, I finally see what it means to be living.

Angst, emotional, pain, love and friendship is Intertwined.  This steamy and captivating story of Liam and Isla will get your heart beating.  Her no nonsense attitude and his alpha tendencies will want you to turn the pages to see what happens next.
At first I didn't like Liam.  But with time, he grew on me.  Isla had a rough childhood growing up so bad that she changed her name.  She got along better with men.  But only two men "really" knew her.  She battled depression.  She loved Whiskey. And she loved Liam.  The trifecta.  They both faced obstacles and both came to terms of what they meant to each other.
I didn't read Blended prior to Intertwined but don't let that stop you.  You will be blown away with Intertwined.  I can't wait for more!!

Synopsis:

From NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author A.L. Jackson comes the next sexy, gripping Bleeding Stars Stand-Alone Novel… I’m Ash Evans. The life of the party. Hot. Rich. Charismatic. A tattooed rock star with the world at my feet. I burn through women faster than the strike of a match. I’ve embraced my lifestyle and live it to the fullest. Until the day my lifestyle caught up to me. Willow Langston found me at my lowest. Literally. Facedown in a puddle of my own blood. I owe her my life and I have three months to repay that debt. What I never should have done was touch her. Kiss her. Take her to my bed. Love wasn’t supposed to be a part of the equation. I gave up that nasty complication a long damned time ago. Now I want her more than my next breath. But she doesn’t know what I know. Do I leave to protect her? Or can I face my demons and ask her to Stay?

Willow has been taking care of her sick mother and living a very safe and boring life.

Ash is the “live in the moment” type and that's how he got himself in this current situation. Beaten and left for dead in an alley.

Willow and Ash’s paths cross after she gets him the medical attention that he needs. Ash wants to meet the woman who saved his life. After they meet they agree upon a business agreement (not what you're thinking) even though Willow wants nothing to do with him. As time progresses they can't fight their growing attraction. They finally give in and everything  is right in the world. Until a secret comes out and threatens to destroy everything.

When this secret was revealed my heart literally squeezed. I felt so bad for Willow because she was in a horrible position. I mean how do you make the right decision? Do you choose loyalty over love? Or love over loyalty? I honestly didn't expect this bombshell and Jackson gutted me. Willow is able to make her decision but I know for myself I would always wonder. I love stories that you can envision yourself as the character. I felt Willow’s pain and struggle. My heart also hurt for Ash because he didn't mean for this happen.

I've been a long time fan of Jackson and her emotional stories such as “When We Collide” and “Take This Regret”  Even though I enjoyed “Wait”,I didn't have that emotional feeling while I was reading. With this book I was happy to report that I got my old school Jackson feeling while reading. You could feel the characters pain and i just wanted to reach in give them a hug and make everything better for Willow and Ash. Fans of Jackson’s older novels will enjoy this story!

Review: Sins of Sevin by Penelope Ward

From the New York Times bestselling author of Stepbrother Dearest, comes a new forbidden STANDALONE romance.

What happens when the one you want is the only one you can’t have?

It was set in stone. Elle and I were getting married. After years of rebelling against everything good and wholesome, I finally gave in and took up with a nice girl.

After a long-distance relationship, I moved into her family’s guesthouse so we could spend time together in the months before the wedding.

Elle was unlike anyone I'd ever been with. She was so innocent, and I had to respect her choice to wait until after we were married to have sex.

I’d accepted that as my fate--even learned to control my desires.

Until I met her…the one.

That was when restraint became a problem…especially since “the one” wasn’t Elle.

It was her sister, Evangeline.

And I was screwed.

Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel.

Sevin comes from a super religious family and everything has been arranged for him to marry Elle. After a few months of courtship he moves in with her and meets her sister, Evangeline, who he has an immediate connection with. Elle is madly in love and planning her future with Sevin. As the story progresses they both try to fight their attraction to each other but it's a lost cause. They know they shouldn't but they can't help the way they feel about each other. As soon as they think they have everything figured out the unthinkable happens. Talk about plot twist!! I didn't see that coming and was like this is the beginning of the end.

As the story unfolds things go from bad to worse for Sevin, Evangeline and Elle. This story was filled with a whole lot of angst, secrets and betrayals. I mean majority of the book I found myself gasping, calling Evangeline stupid and feeling so sorry for Sevin and Elle.

"But for someone who grew up without any kind of affection, sex was the closest thing I had to love, the closest thing to a connection with another human being."

“Don’t ever leave me again.”

In books I always find myself rooting for the heroine but this time around I was all for Sevin. Sevin had a lot of baggage and despite it all he tried to be the best man he could be. I know, I know if he's in love with his girlfriend's sister how could he be? But trust me he has a heart of gold. He just needed and wanted love, acceptance and a place to call home. Don't we all?

Evangeline, ugh, she infuriated me so much! I felt a lot of her actions and decisions when it came to certain things were selfish. She hurt a lot of people by her actions and I wanted to shake her! She didn't deserve Sevin but to each their own.

This book was definitely not what I expected by Penelope Ward. As a fan of her later books this one took me for a wild ride and I loved every second of it! If you are looking for an emotional roller coaster look no further! I highly recommend adding the audio narration it truly did enhance the story. The narrators were able to capture the emotions throughout the story perfectly.

Review: Unspoken Promises by H.P. Davenport

RELEASE DATE: January 16, 2017

UNSPOKEN PROMISES (Book 2, The Unspoken Love Series)

SYNOPSIS:

Unspoken Promises are worse than lies.

Morgan Kennedy and Lincoln Gates have been in love since high school. Their friends have envied their devotion to not only each other, but also the life they’ve made together. From the
outside looking in, their relationship is perfect. One mirrored of fairytales. But behind the door, Morgan isn’t feeling as fulfilled as she once did. She wants more. She wants the glass slipper and
the happily ever after.

What Lincoln and Morgan don’t anticipate is that a horrific event is about to make them second-guess their wants.

We are first introduced to Lincoln and Morgan in Unspoken Words. The group is dealing with the aftermath of what happened to Camryn. You don't need to read the other book to know what happens but I recommend it since it was a good story. Lincoln and Morgan both blame themselves for what happened and their guilt consumes them. I understood where they were coming from but I wished they would have communicated with each better. They've been together for 8 years and at times they felt like a new couple.

A few weeks go by and the couple are pretty much skirting around their issues. There is a complete breakdown of the relationship and a separation happens. I loved this part of the book because it reminded me of the old saying “don't know what you got till it's gone.”
During this time Lincoln and Morgan are both forced to do some growing and soul searching. While apart another tragedy happens and I wasn't sure how/if the couple would be able to come back from this situation. My heart broke for both Lincoln and Morgan as they were both hurting throughout this time.

“We were meant to go through our loss together to get to where we are today. Our hardest times often lead us to the greatest moments.”

This is Davenport’s second book and her writing was just excellent in this story. Her growth as a writer as very impressive. This story gave me so many feels and emotions and I finished the book in a few hours. If you are looking for an emotional, angst filled story about finding yourself, heartbreak and second chances look no further.

EXCERPT:

“What happened to us, Lincoln? Where did things go wrong?” she mutters uneasily. Tears slowly find their way down her cheeks.
“I wish I had the answer, but I don’t.” My voice wavers.
“I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this. I’m losing myself. I hate who I’ve become,” she shakes her head regretfully.
“I hate that I’m hurting you.”
I get up and sit next to her. I place my hand under her chin, lifting her face so I can see her. “I love you. You know that, don’t you?”
“I know you love me. That’s never been the problem.” Her faint smile holds a touch of sadness.
How do two people that love each other repair what has been broken? Can we? Seeing her sad is breaking me. I’m such a dumbass for not realizing how much she's hurting watching her best friend get something she wants so bad. Something that I’m not willing to give her.
The ride home takes about an hour with the city traffic this time of night. With Morgan’s hand clasped with mine we enter my apartment. The sound of the door shutting echoes in the living room. I turn the lock and toss my keys on the table next to the door.
I follow Morgan in to the bedroom. I lean down and place a gentle kiss against her lips. The touch of her lips is a delicious sensation. I raise my mouth from hers and gaze into her eyes. Christian was right. They are sad. How haven’t I noticed how much this is affecting her?
She pushes up against me to meet my lips again. Morgan showers kisses around my lips and along my jaw. Her breath smells sweet, like the fruity cocktail she was drinking at the wedding reception. The kisses are slow and sensual that drive me wild. My mouth swoops down to capture hers. She parts her lips granting me access to her tongue. Her tongue tastes sugary. My lips recapture hers, more demanding this time.
I pull away from her and gaze into her dark brown eyes. My hands make their way to her face, cupping her cheeks. “I love you, Morgan,” I say against her hips.
She bites her lip, and a groan passes through my lips. My chest heaves uncontrollably. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve been intimate.
Slowly my fingertips pull the zipper of her dress. Once it reaches the bottom, her strapless dress falls to the floor. Her flawless body stands before be in a lacey black strapless bra and matching thong.
I gently outline her nipples, causing her to suck in a quick breath. Her nipples harden immediately from being teased. I gradually work my way to the clasp at the back undoing it. Her bra falls to the floor and I can’t help but lean down and take her nipple into my mouth.
Her hands pull on my hair. I press kisses, feathery and light, followed by little love bites as I make my way down her body. Morgan shivers and arches against me. I guide her toward the bed until the back of her thighs hit the mattress.
“Lie down.”
Morgan complies and I take her breast into my mouth and suck hard. She moans, when I bite her nipple.
When I look up, I see a mark on her breast. I sucked a little too hard. I should feel bad, but I don’t. Instead, I feel proud. Possessive. I love leaving my mark on Morgan.
I rip her panties off and throw them to the side.
Morgan gasps and looks down at me. “They were brand new,” she says angrily.
“They were in the way… I’ll buy you new ones.”
I continue to torture her with kisses along her stomach, her hip, then her thighs. My hands stroke the inside of her thigh. I explore the sexy curves that lead to her tight little ass.
“Stop teasing me,” she pleads.
When I find her clit, I suck on her sensitive bud. She cries out and grips my hair and grinds against my face.
I lick her, kiss her, torture her with my mouth until she is chanting my name.
“Lincoln, oh, God.”
I smile as I bite her clit, then suck on it.
“Don’t stop. Just like that.” Her orgasm hits her hard. She pulls my face against her and grinds against my face. Her other hand grips the sheet as she cries out.
Her back arches off the bed and her body trembles.
I don’t give her time to recover as I make my way up her body, trailing kisses along the way.
“Who do you belong to, Morgan? Tell me.” My voice low and demanding.
“You,” she moans “Always, you.” Her voice unsteady. She closes her eyes.
“Look at me, don’t close your eyes. I need to see your eyes. You need to know who is doing this to you.”
She blinks, then her eyes blaze up at me.
“I’ll fight for you. Don’t give up on us.” I kiss the tip of her nose and climb off the bed to quickly undress.

UNSPOKEN WORDS (Book 1, Unspoken Love Series)

SYNOPSIS:

Two lives...as close to perfect as they can be.

Camryn Townsend has everything she’s always dreamed of...an amazing family, supportive friends, and the perfect job.

Everything a girl could want. Or is it? A trip back to her childhood home threatens to unravel her web of perfection.

Her problem...she’s in love with her best friend and she’s too scared to sacrifice their friendship for a love she’s always wanted.

Jamie Banks’ life is the epitome of perfection. His company is thriving, his band is on the cusp of stardom, and the girl he loves is returning home.

His problem...the girl he loves has been his best friend for as long as he can remember and he’s not sure he’s ready to sacrifice his best friend for a lover. Pursuing a relationship with the possibility of losing her has him second-guessing everything he knows.

Unspoken words are the only thing standing in their way.
